One of the greatest sources of reassurance for me is knowing that my case is recorded within Spain’s VioGén system.

The evidence I have provided—including statements, photographs, reports and other relevant information—forms part of the case information available to the authorities responsible for protecting victims of gender-based violence. This means that, if I ever need help in the future, the police do not have to start from the beginning or rely solely on my memory of events. They have access to the history of my case and the risk assessments that have been carried out.

Many people mistakenly believe that once a restraining order ends, all protection disappears.

In reality, VioGén is designed to help the authorities continue assessing risk and coordinating protection where appropriate. If circumstances change, new incidents occur, or there are concerns about safety, the system allows the police to review the case and respond accordingly.

Knowing this has given me enormous peace of mind.

It is one of the main reasons I chose to remain living in this area of Spain. I know that if I ever need assistance, I am not starting from scratch. The professionals involved have an established record of my case, understand the risks that have been identified, and can take informed action if necessary.
