Fresh start

Gratitude, Friendship, and a Fresh Start

As I prepare to move into my new home later this week, my heart is full of gratitude.

To the precious friends who have offered their time, energy, and kindness to help me move—thank you. Your generosity has restored my faith in human nature. It is a beautiful reminder that genuine friendship isn’t measured by what someone can gain from you, but by the willingness to simply show up when it matters most.

For so many years, I lived with someone whose view of relationships was transactional. Every act of kindness came with a price tag. Every favour carried an invisible debt. I was made to believe that nothing was freely given—that everything had to be paid for in one way or another.

Now I know differently.

Real friends don’t keep score. They don’t calculate what they’re owed. They help because they care.

As I pack the last of my belongings, I’m also leaving behind something far heavier than boxes. I’m leaving behind the memories of finding cruel little surprises hidden around the house, pathetic letters and cards filled with hollow apologies that were never followed by changed behaviour. Words without accountability are not remorse—they are simply another form of manipulation.

This move is about so much more than changing my address. It marks the beginning of a chapter built on peace instead of tension, kindness instead of criticism, and authenticity instead of pretence.

To everyone who has stood beside me, encouraged me, and reminded me what genuine human connection feels like—thank you. You have helped me reclaim not just a home, but a life.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t what people give you. It’s the way they make you feel: safe, valued, supported, and finally free.

Here’s to new beginnings, wonderful friends, and a future where the only surprises waiting behind closed doors are happy ones.
