What may still continue
Even after the order ends, there can still be ongoing protections depending on your case history:
1. Police risk monitoring (VioGén)
- You may remain in the system if the case is still considered relevant risk-wise
- Risk level can be reviewed and updated over time
- Monitoring can continue even without an active restraining order
2. Informal police awareness / local records
- Local police may still have historical knowledge of the case
- This can influence how quickly they respond if anything new is reported
3. Emergency response protection
- If you report harassment, threats, or stalking after expiry:
- Police can still act immediately
- A new restraining order can be requested quickly if needed
🔵 What is important to understand
- A restraining order is a legal barrier, but not the only form of protection
- After it ends, protection becomes more risk-based and reactive rather than automatic
- The system does not “reset to zero” — history still matters in risk assessment
🧠 Simple way to think about it
- During the order → automatic legal protection
- After the order → monitoring + response-based protection if issues arise
