There’s a special kind of relative… you know the ones.

There’s a special kind of relative… you know the ones.

They appear twice a year like a calendar reminder no one set.
Walk in with a polite smile, do the obligatory “how are you,” sit just long enough to be seen… and then disappear again for another six months.

But don’t worry—they’re very involved.
Just not to your face.

Because behind closed doors, they’re running full commentary:
who’s doing what, who’s not doing enough, what they would do differently (of course), and—my personal favourite—quietly pre-planning a future that doesn’t belong to them.

It’s less “family visit” and more…
attendance taken, box ticked, inheritance mentally allocated.

Funny thing is, real connection doesn’t work like that.
You can’t build relationships on appearances and expect depth to magically show up later.

And you definitely can’t fake care now and expect it to count when it matters.

The truth?
Consistency tells the story. Not the occasional cameo.

So here’s to the ones who show up without an agenda,
who don’t keep score,
who don’t whisper behind backs,
and who understand that people are not investments waiting to mature.

The rest?

Well… twice a year is about right.
