🕊️ Independence, Freedom & Coming Home to Myself

By Linda C J Turner Therapy

For many years, I gave my independence away.
Little by little.
Piece by piece.
Not because I didn’t value it — but because I was told that love meant sacrifice.
That compromise meant silence.
That “togetherness” meant I couldn’t stand alone.

But here’s what I know now:
That wasn’t love.
That was control.

🔄 Reclaiming What Was Mine All Along

Reclaiming my independence has been one of the most empowering and sacred chapters of my healing.
It’s not just about being single.
It’s about being sovereign — emotionally, spiritually, financially, energetically.

It’s about remembering that I am free to make choices, free to rest, free to dream, free to heal — without anyone trying to shrink, shame, or sabotage me.

💡 From a Psychological Perspective

When someone spends years in emotionally manipulative or codependent dynamics, they often lose touch with their internal locus of control — the belief that they are the author of their own life.

That control is replaced by fear, guilt, obligation, or learned helplessness.

But healing brings that power back.
Bit by bit, we learn that we are not too much.
That we are not selfish for wanting space.
That our freedom is our birthright, not a privilege to be negotiated.

🌿 What Freedom Means to Me Now

🌟 Freedom of expression:
I speak freely now. No more walking on eggshells. No more being “too careful.” If something matters to me, I say it. With honesty, not apology.

🌟 Freedom of movement:
I go where I want. I live where I choose. I no longer need permission to follow my own path.

🌟 Freedom of thought:
No more mental prisons built from someone else’s insecurities. My thoughts are my own. My truth is valid.

🌟 Freedom to protect my peace:
Not everyone gets access to me anymore. I’ve earned my calm, and I guard it like gold.

💬 A Word to Others Reclaiming Their Power

If you’re walking this path — of taking your independence back — please know:

You are not wrong for wanting space.
You are not “difficult” for needing freedom.
You are not heartless for choosing yourself.

You are awakening.
You are healing.
You are becoming whole again.

✨ Final Reflection

For too long, I let someone else dictate how I lived, loved, and felt.
Now? I’m no longer a background character in my own life.

I am free.
I am independent.
And I am finally, gloriously, home to myself.

With strength and serenity,
