🌟 When Delusion Replaces Reality đźŚź

By Linda C J Turner, Therapist & Advocate

It’s quite something to watch the way some people rewrite history in their own minds — a movie where they’re always the hero, the one everyone supposedly still wants.

For the longest time, he truly believed his ex-wife wanted him back. He told me this often, almost as if it was a badge of honor. But the truth? She couldn’t stand him — she hated him for what he put her through. The damage he caused was something she was desperate to escape, not something she longed to return to.

I’ll never forget: even as he packed up and left our shared home, he laughed and said he might “go back to her.” As if it was a real option. As if she were waiting by the door.
The reality was — and still is — that she had slammed that door shut long ago. He just refused to see it.

It’s laughable now, thinking about the levels of delusion at play. And I have no doubt he’s spinning the same story about me — telling anyone who will listen that I secretly want him back.

Let me be absolutely clear:
Nothing could be further from the truth.

Once you have truly seen someone’s true character, once you have peeled away the mask and stood face to face with the lies, the manipulation, the damage — there is no going back.
Not out of anger, not out of bitterness, but out of deep, hard-earned self-respect.

Healing opens your eyes wide. And once they are open, they do not close again.
The peace that comes after surviving chaos is far too precious to ever risk losing again — not for nostalgia, not for loneliness, and certainly not for someone who lives in a fantasy of their own making.

So let them tell their stories. Let them build their castles in the sky.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are here, walking solid ground, stronger, wiser, and so beautifully free.

Here’s to living in truth, not delusion. ✨
