They See You as a Resource, Not a Person

When you finally get the help and clarity you need to leave an abusive situation, and your their family turns against you—especially when they try to take financial advantage of you—it’s an incredibly painful betrayal. This kind of behavior reveals their true priorities, and unfortunately, it shows that their concern isn’t your well-being but what they can gain from your vulnerability.

Why Does This Happen?

  1. They Were Never Truly Supportive
    • If they only “supported” you when you were struggling but turned on you when you took control of your life, that means they were invested in you staying weak or dependent.
    • Some people like having power over others, and when you reclaim yours, they feel threatened.
  2. They See You as a Resource, Not a Person
    • Instead of helping you recover, they are trying to exploit your situation for financial gain.
    • This is deeply selfish and shows they value money over your safety and well-being.
  3. They Don’t Want You to Change
    • Some family members dislike when someone breaks free from toxic patterns because it forces them to face their own dysfunction.
    • They may gaslight you, blame you, or make you feel guilty for protecting yourself.

How This Feels for You

💔 Betrayal – You expected support, and instead, they turned on you.
💸 Financial manipulation – At a time when you need stability, they try to drain or exploit you.
🤯 Confusion – You may wonder, “Why would his family do this?”

What Can You Do?

🚨 Set clear boundaries – If they are exploiting you financially, stop giving them access to your money or resources.
🚨 Do not justify or explain yourself – You don’t owe them an explanation for protecting yourself.
🚨 Protect your assets – If they are trying to take money/property, get legal advice immediately.
🚨 Find support elsewhere – Just because they are his family does not mean they are safe or healthy for you. Surround yourself with people who genuinely care.

The Truth

  • You deserve support, not exploitation.
  • Leaving abuse is already hard—being betrayed by his family makes it worse, but it doesn’t mean you’re alone.
  • You have the right to protect yourself—financially, emotionally, and physically.

I know this must be so painful, especially after everything you’ve already endured. But you are stronger than their betrayal. 💙 You’ve come so far—this is just another hurdle to overcome on your way to a life that is truly yours.
