Abuse is something people naturally turn away from because it goes against fundamental values of respect, trust, and kindness that most people hold dear. When someone harms their partner, they violate that bond and reveal a deep disregard for the other person’s dignity and wellbeing. It’s not surprising that friends, family, and communities may distance themselves from someone who continues down that path, especially if there’s no sign of remorse or a willingness to change.
People who abuse often justify their actions or hide behind various reasons, but that only deepens the harm and isolation. True accountability means facing the reality of the harm caused and taking active steps to repair it—both for oneself and for the person affected. Therapy and self-reflection are essential for breaking harmful patterns, but only if the person is genuinely committed to change.
This issue also affects the community because, in some cases, people who choose to stay silent indirectly enable the abuse to continue. By calling it out and supporting survivors, communities can create safer, healthier environments and promote healing, accountability, and growth for everyone involved.
