Another unexpected freedom is no longer feeling responsible for carrying everyone else.
I no longer have to live with constant negativity, endless complaining, or conversations that revolve around money, illness, or what everyone else should be doing. I don’t have to listen to endless moaning about how much everything costs, who’s paying for what, or what someone thinks they’re owed.
I no longer have to tolerate people who expect everything to be done for them while contributing very little themselves. The atmosphere was draining—so much energy spent complaining, criticising, and finding fault, and so little spent appreciating what they had or making life enjoyable for the people around them.
Today, I choose to spend my time with people who are grateful, generous, and emotionally mature. People who ask how you are, who laugh, who tell stories, who are curious about the world and interested in others. People who contribute to conversations rather than dominate them. People who take responsibility for themselves instead of expecting others to carry the load.
I’ve learned that the people you surround yourself with shape the quality of your life.
After years of living in an environment filled with criticism, negativity, and emotional exhaustion, I now choose peace, kindness, laughter, and mutual respect. Life is simply too precious to spend it around people who drain your energy when there are so many who inspire it.
