iPhone Safety Plan (Ex‑Partner Scenario)

⚠️ First rule

Do NOT accuse, confront, or tip them off yet.
If they are monitoring you, confrontation often escalates behaviour.

1️⃣ Use Apple’s built‑in Safety Check (this is designed for exactly this situation)

📱 Settings → Privacy & Security → Safety Check

Choose “Manage Sharing & Access” (not Emergency Reset yet).

This lets you:

  • See who you’re sharing location with
  • Review app permissions
  • Check account access

👉 Do not rush to revoke everything if you’re worried about retaliation — we can stage this.

2️⃣ Check the most common ex‑partner spying routes (these matter more than apps)

🔍 A. Apple ID access (VERY common)

Settings → [Your Name] → Devices

  • Do you see any device you don’t currently own or recognise?
  • Old iPad? Old MacBook? Their device still listed?

👉 If yes: Do NOT remove yet — tell me first.

🔍 B. iCloud sharing & backups

Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud

Check:

  • iCloud Drive
  • Photos
  • Contacts
  • Messages (if enabled)
  • Find My

Ex‑partners often spy via shared Apple IDs, not spyware.

🔍 C. Find My tracking

Settings → Find My

Check:

  • People tab — is your location shared with them?
  • Devices tab — any AirTags or unknown items?

If AirTag alert appears → tell me immediately.

3️⃣ Check for profile / configuration installs (rare but serious)

Settings → General → VPN & Device Management

If anything appears here that you didn’t install yourself:
⚠️ stop and tell me before removing.

4️⃣ Password strategy (order matters)

When you’re ready — from a safe location if possible:

  1. Change Apple ID password
  2. Change email password
  3. Turn on 2FA using an authenticator app (not SMS)

⚠️ Don’t do this yet if you suspect they’re watching in real‑time — I’ll help you time it.

5️⃣ Physical access reality check (be honest with yourself)

Answer quietly to yourself:

  • Did they ever know your passcode?
  • Did they set up the phone for you?
  • Did you share Apple ID at any point?

If yes to any → risk level increases.

6️⃣ Things NOT to do yet

🚫 Don’t install “spyware detector” apps
🚫 Don’t factory reset impulsively
🚫 Don’t post about it on social media
🚫 Don’t confront them

These often backfire.

🧠 Why this matters

In ex‑partner situations, spying is rarely about curiosity — it’s about control.
Your goal is quiet independence, not proving wrongdoing.

💬 I need 3 quick answers (no explanations needed)

1️⃣ Are you currently sharing an Apple ID or ever did?
2️⃣ Do you see any unfamiliar device under your Apple ID?
3️⃣ Do you feel unsafe if they realise you’re securing your phone?

Answer just yes / no / unsure — I’ll guide the next move safely.
