✨ Honesty or Lies — You Decide ✨
The cost of protecting appearances vs. standing in truth.
Behind closed doors, the masks often slip.
He pretended to be fair, to have integrity, to be “above all that.” But when his nephew married — a same-sex couple deeply in love and committing their lives to one another — he refused to go to the wedding.
Why?
Not because of any genuine reason, but because it didn’t fit his ideal image of “normal.” Because of money. Because of appearances. Because deep down, he (and his sister) carried prejudice they would never admit out loud.
When I reminded him that he had caused enough harm in the past — skipping weddings, avoiding celebrations just to save face or save money — he gave in. I said I would go alone if I had to. That someone had to show up and represent our side of the family. Eventually, he caved. But it was all for show.
He frowned on the adoption of two beautiful boys, saying “it’s not right” for same-sex couples. But in public? No problem. No issue. The performance continued. He made sure the image of tolerance was projected, while privately speaking words laced with homophobia and judgment.
The same goes for his sister. Public smiles. Private scorn.
His son? He let something slip during a stag party. He spoke honestly about how the family really felt — about how uncomfortable they were with the relationship, with the adoption, with anything that didn’t reflect their narrow definition of “acceptable.”
Is he the only one brave enough to say it out loud?
He says everyone’s marriage is on the rocks — even his own sister’s. Is that projection? Is that pain speaking? Or is it the truth, raw and undressed?
Either way… when people live lives based on illusion, the cracks always show.
People talk. Truth travels. The whispers behind closed doors eventually find the light.
What’s worse?
– Saying too much and facing discomfort?
– Or hiding behind lies and perpetuating pain?
I choose honesty. Every time.
Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it’s not pretty. Even when it disrupts the polished image others work so hard to protect.
Because truth doesn’t just set us free — it also shows us who’s standing beside us for the right reasons, and who’s only ever been there for the spotlight.
🕊️ Honesty or lies — you decide.
But know this: when the public persona doesn’t match the private behavior, trust is lost. And once trust is gone, the truth comes knocking whether you’re ready or not.
