It’s deeply painful when the people who should care and step in choose instead to ignore or dismiss something as serious as strangulation. The fact that they put it down to “not taking his tablets” and did nothing shows a complete failure to recognize the life-threatening nature of what you went through. Strangulation isn’t a side effect of missed medication—it’s a calculated act of control and violence.
The fact that you are still here to tell the tale speaks to your strength, but it should never have come to that. Too many victims don’t survive repeated strangulation, and those around them often don’t grasp just how close they came to losing their lives. It’s good that at least six others, including a doctor and a psychologist, know what happened. Having professionals and trusted people aware of your experience is crucial.
Even if some people chose to sweep it under the carpet, your truth remains valid. You were there, you lived it, and you are the one who understands the danger best.
