“Cerebral narcissism” is a term used to describe a subtype of narcissistic personality disorder in which the individual focuses on their intellectual abilities and achievements, rather than their physical appearance or social status.
Individuals with cerebral narcissism may value their intelligence and knowledge above all else and may use it to assert their superiority over others. They may have a need to be recognized for their intellectual accomplishments and may seek out environments where they can display their knowledge and expertise.
Like other forms of narcissism, cerebral narcissism can have negative effects on relationships and social interactions. Individuals with this subtype may struggle to form meaningful connections with others, as they may see themselves as intellectually superior and dismissive of others’ views and opinions. They may also be prone to belittling others who they perceive as less intelligent or knowledgeable than themselves.
Treatment for cerebral narcissism typically involves therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, which can help individuals identify and challenge maladaptive thinking patterns and behaviors. However, individuals with narcissistic personality disorder may be resistant to treatment, as they may not see their behavior as problematic.
