The European Union of Women Mujeres en Igualdad Marina Alta (EUWMA) is a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) and one of the fastest-growing women’s groups in the Marina Alta region. Welcoming women from all backgrounds, it creates a supportive space for discussion, awareness, and action on women’s rights, equality, and empowerment. As part of a Europe-wide network committed to democratic representation and peace, EUWMA is accredited with the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and participates in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). President Margaret Hales encourages local involvement, stating: “We are a group which raises issues about women in our part of Spain. Through cooperation and friendship, we are helping to create a network of women who care for each other. We care that we still struggle for parity in the job market, and we care that 50 women’s lives a year (in Spain) are needlessly lost through gender violence. Together we can make our voices heard above the chatter of other issues. Together we can make progress. Join us in this journey.”
Women working together achieve great things.
