🌿 Psychology Insight: Reciprocal Determinism 🌿
“You shape your world—and it shapes you right back.”
Developed by psychologist Albert Bandura, reciprocal determinism explains how:
🔁 Our beliefs
🔁 Our behavior
🔁 And our environment
…all constantly influence each other.
This can lead to cycles of harm or cycles of healing. Here’s how:
💔 Toxic Loop (Abuse, Lying, Manipulation):
🧠 You believe people will leave you if you don’t control them.
➡️ You lie, guilt-trip, or manipulate (behavior).
➡️ The other person becomes anxious, confused, or pulls away (environment).
➡️ You “prove” your belief: “See? I was right to control them.”
This is how abusive dynamics can reinforce themselves—on both sides. Even victims can internalize the cycle, believing they’re powerless or responsible.
💛 Healing Loop (Empathy, Truth, Kindness):
🧠 You believe people are capable of love and understanding.
➡️ You speak with honesty and empathy.
➡️ Others feel safe and respond with openness or kindness.
➡️ You reinforce your belief: “Connection is possible.”
When you lead with integrity, compassion, or courage, you invite others to rise to that level—or walk away, making space for healthier connections.
🌟 The truth?
You’re not stuck in any cycle—you can shift it.
Healing begins when we see the patterns, own our responses, and start choosing differently.
Even one change—a boundary, a truth, a kind act—can start a ripple that reshapes everything.
✨ What are you putting out into the world today?
Because that energy echoes back.
